Hanoi/California: June 11, 2003 - We are sending you an open letter and article from The Committee To Free Political Prisoners in Viet Nam to ask for the freedom of Mr. Nguyen Vu Binh, Dr. Pham Hong Son and other Vietnamese political prisoners as well as letters from Mr. Nguyen Vu Binh's wife, Mrs. Bui Thi Kim Ngan and Dr. Pham Hong Son's wife, Mrs. Vu Thuy Ha asking for the release of their husbands.
Mr. Nguyen Vu Binh was a former reporter of The Communist Reviews (Tap Chi Cong San). He resigned after deciding to form an independent organization in Viet Nam, The Democracy and Freedom Party, to challenge the Communist Party. Mr. Nguyen Vu Binh was arrested on September 25, 2002. Since then, the Hanoi Government has denied Mrs. Bui 's request to visit her husband. They have also denied Mrs. Bui's request to seek professional representation in the defense of her husband.
Dr. Pham Hong Son was arrested on March 27, 2003. His trial will take place on June 18, 2003. The authorities have accused Dr. Pham of espionage. In fact, he was arrested for having merely translated into Vietnamese, the article "What is Democracy" which is posted on the American Embassy's web site.
Below are letters and articles in Vietnamese addressed to high-ranking officials of the Communist Vietnamese Government and whomever it may concern.

Open Letter
To Whom It May Concern
Viet Nam - May 30, 2003 - On behalf of The Committee To Free Political Prisoners in Viet Nam, we strongly condemn the illegal detention of Mr. Nguyen Vu Binh, Dr. Pham Hong Son and other Vietnamese Dissidents' arrest such as Professor Tran Khue, former colonel and reporter Pham Que Duong, Dr. Nguyen Dan Que, Father Nguyen Van Ly as well as the Hanoi People Court's sentence of Le Chi Quang and Nguyen Khac Toan recently.
We are ashamed of being citizens in a country where the so-called tittle "Cong Hoa Xa Hoi Chu Nghia Viet Nam - Doc Lap Tu Do Hanh Phuc" (The Socialist Republic of Viet Nam - Independence - Freedom - Happiness) is written on every official letter but is in contradiction to what it refers to. The authorities have been constantly violating Viet Nam's constitution. The Socialist Republic of Viet Nam's constitution clearly states: "recognize the right of freedom of expressions and opinions" in Article 69, however the police continues to crack down on individuals who dare to speak and write independently. While its constitution, on article 131 declares: "The People's Court will conduct trial in public", Mr. Le Chi Quang and Nguyen Khac Toan's trial were conducted behind closed-doors.
The Committee To Free Political Prisoners in Viet Nam is formed inside Viet Nam. Our mission is to campaign to free all Political Prisoners in Viet Nam. We coordinately ask the government to abide by its constitution and immediately release all Vietnamese Political Prisoners including former reporter Nguyen Vu Binh, Dr. Pham Hong Son, Nguyen Khac Toan, Le Chi Quang, Professor Tran Khue, former colonel and reporter Pham Que Duong, Father Nguyen Van Ly and others. We also ask for support from the international community to condemn Ha Noi's violation of basic human rights.

Việt Nam - Ngày 30 tháng 5 năm 2003, chúng tôi Ủy Ban Vận Động Tự Do cho Tù Nhân Chính Trị tại Việt Nam cực lực phản đối nhà cầm quyền Hà Nội đã giam giữ trái phép cựu biên tập viên Nguyễn Vũ Bình và nhiều nhà bất đồng chính kiến tại Việt Nam như Bác sĩ Phạm Hồng Sơn, Giáo sư Trần Khuê, cựu đại tá kiêm nhà báo Phạm Quế Dương, Bác sĩ Nguyễn Đan Quế, Linh mục Nguyễn Văn Lý ..... Ủy Ban cũng phản đối các bản án phi pháp do Toà án nhân dân Hà Nội tuyên án đối với Lê Chí Quang và Nguyễn Khắc Toàn.
Là công dân nước Việt Nam, chúng tôi cảm thấy xấu hổ khi đọc những dòng chử Cộng Hòa Xã Hội Chủ Nghĩa Việt Nam - Độc Lập, Tự Do, Hạnh Phúc trên mỗi tờ đơn của Nhà nước. Thực tế trái hẳn những dòng chử trên, nhà nước đã liên tục vi phạm thô bạo Hiến Pháp. Trong khi điều 69 Hiến Pháp nước Cộng Hoà Xã Hội Chủ Nghĩa Việt Nam long trọng cam kết tôn trọng quyền bày tỏ ý kiến, thì ngược lại công an liên tục đàn áp và bắt giữ những ai dám bảo vệ quan điểm của họ. Trong khi điều 131 xác định quyền được xử án công khai, thì phiên toà xử anh Lê Chí Quang và Nguyễn Khắc Toàn lại hạn chế số người tham dự.
Ủy Ban Vận Động Tự Do cho Tù Nhân Chính Trị tại Việt Nam được thành lập tại Việt Nam. Mục đích của Ủy Ban là nổ lực vận động tự do cho các nhân vật bất đồng chính kiến đang bị nhà nước Việt Nam giam giữ. Chúng tôi kêu gọi nhà cầm quyền nên tôn trọng bản Hiến Pháp và mau chóng trả tự do cho những tù nhân chính trị, cụ thể là trường hợp Nguyễn Vũ Bình, Bác sĩ Phạm Hồng Sơn, Giáo sư Trần Khuê, cựu đại tá kiêm nhà báo Phạm Quế Dương, Bác sĩ Nguyễn Đan Quế, Linh mục Nguyễn Văn Lý và nhiều người khác. Chúng tôi cũng khẩn kêu gọi Cộng Đồng Quốc Tế lên án các hành động vi phạm nhân quyền tại Việt Nam.
